# Discovering Espanso
I was recently playing with the new [YAML editing capabilities of XMLSpy](https://www.altova.com/xmlspy-xml-editor/whatsnew#yaml) and looking for some open-source projects that utilized [[YAML]] configuration files (other than Kubernetes), when I stumbled upon a few mentions of [[Espanso]] in some developer forums.
Upon diving deeper into this topic, I was impressed with its privacy-focused and cross-platform capabilities, and immediately went to install it on my laptop and subsequently also on my desktop machine.
I obviously used XMLSpy to edit the base.yml configuration file to customize the tool for my needs:

And I was able to easily [get all my configurations to synchronize](https://espanso.org/docs/sync/) between machines via Google Drive.
I was also delighted to discover that [there are many pre-made packages](https://hub.espanso.org/) that already include a ton of useful expansions for developers.
